AFMG Reflex

Berlin, Germany, March 2011... German software manufacturer AFMG, renowned for professional solutions simulating room acoustics, just released the first commercial software able to model the reflection, diffusion, and scattering of a sound wave by a defined geometrical structure. AFMG Reflex is available in two versions: the basic version aims at advanced home studio designs, home theater installations and other semi-professional applications. Reflex Standard offers unlimited features for acoustic consultants, architects, and sophisticated users of EASE.

With Reflex, AFMG makes another big step forward in enhancing the quality for simulation of room acoustics. Besides professionals working with acoustical simulations every day, the software also benefits owners of high-end home studios or similar audio setups.

Within AFMG Reflex the shape of a reflective surface is entered as a two-dimensional cross-section. The reflective properties are displayed as a polar response graph for any angle of incidence and frequency of a sound wave. The scattering and diffusion coefficients are shown as frequency response graphs. Result data can be compared for different angles, frequencies and models and saved directly as a report document. This makes it easy to optimize both diffusers as well as room arrangement.

AFMG Reflex for Professional Home Studios and Home Theater Installations

Users of Reflex Basic can quickly and easily investigate existing installations of diffusers and wall surfaces and use Reflex to save time and money designing optimized diffusers for small to mid-sized setups. The software can be used to evaluate diffuser quality and to tune audio installations and room design for one optimal listener´s position as well as for a wider area.

AFMG Reflex for Acoustic Consultants, Architects, and Sophisticated Users of EASE

Professionals will opt for Reflex Standard. Size and complexity of surfaces are unlimited and calculated scattering coefficients can be exported directly into EASE wall material files. Standard version users can view multiple surface models simultaneously and compare their performance in detail. Users of the EASE room-acoustic module AURA now find AFMG Reflex as an indispensable tool for calculating the necessary scattering coefficients.

Complex and realistic simulations for room acoustics have become more and more important in the recent past. AFMG Reflex is the first commercial software to compute scattering coefficients and thus bridge the gap between using measured absorption coefficients of materials and rule-of-thumb estimates of their respective scattering coefficients. Any 2D-extruded geometrical surface design can now be modeled. Results can be used to greatly improve simulations especially of acoustically challenging environments.

Pricing and Distribution

The basic version of AFMG Reflex will be selling at 250 € excl. VAT. It is limited to 20 geometrical elements; it cannot export to EASE material files and can only load one model at a time. AFMG Reflex Standard has an unlimited feature set. The announced retail price will be 500 € net. Expansion licenses for both programs are available at a 20% discount.
AFMG will handle the worldwide distribution through their website and online store located at www.afmg.eu.
A trial version and further product information are available at the product website http://reflex.afmg.eu.
